Bringing vintage style to modern business signage

Bringing vintage style to modern business signage

Every industry experiences trends that go back to a more traditional look. Even the motor industry pays homage to the past through fashion and architecture. To integrate with new technologies, designers frequently take certain pieces from earlier designs, giving the final product a whole new look and feel. And it might even be something as unassuming as the material employed or as subtle as a certain shade of hue. The same is true of contemporary commercial signage. The vintage look can be a terrific way to honour the past while still preserving a contemporary appearance.

Here are a few vintage styles that are now making a reappearance.

LED Tubing:

In the 1970s and 1980s, neon accent tubing was frequently utilised to draw attention to buildings, casinos, and gas stations. Neon's use has decreased since it is expensive to maintain, expensive to illuminate, and not eco-friendly. As neon has been phased out, LED tubing has gradually begun to take the place of the formerly popular accent lighting. Flexible LED tubing can be created to resemble exposed neon letters as well as accent lighting. It's developing into a fantastic resource for the retro neon appearance that companies want to create.

Weathered Steel:

Weathered steel, often known as Corten steel, is used to create the illusion that something is older than it actually is. The ageing process is accelerated and then stopped using corten steel. To make rust, a salt solution is used to wash the steel. A clear coat is then applied to stop the process after the desired appearance has been attained. It is increasingly employed as an accent on buildings as well as on monument signs.

Corten can be expensive, despite the fact that many architects and designers prefer the way it looks. As a result, faux rust paint treatments are now available to imitate the appearance of weathered steel. The painted finish also has the added benefit of not leaving rain-induced rust streaks!

Rustic Wood:

Rustic wood accent walls or furnishings are highly popular. Even signs are starting to use it now! It can be used as a background for interior signs or as an accent for signage. The delicate nature of the wood backing contrasts beautifully with the letter's harsh metal components. For external business signage, another choice is sandblasted wood signs. Sandblasting is actually used to carve the images into the wood. This adds depth to the sign rather than making it merely a flat wood panel.

Neon:

Although neon will never again be as widely used as it once was, it nevertheless has a role in contemporary commercial signs. We are not referring to the beer signs that are visible in taverns because illumination is readily damaged by the outdoor elements. Recently, it has been used on the interiors of companies. Today, it's employed to give brand logos a nostalgic appearance that can only be achieved with neon.

Old fashions and designs have a habit of resurfacing in all industries. In the sign industry, vintage designs will always be popular because they evoke a certain sense of nostalgia that consumers enjoy. The appearance and feel must be perfect, whether it's for accent lighting, marquee illumination, or even sign backgrounds. Although it should appear to be from the 1970s or 1980s, it should operate as though it were brand new.
